Wall Street Rising
Wall Street Rising is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization formed in October 2001, dedicated to restoring the vibrancy and vitality that existed in Lower Manhattan prior to the devastating events of September 11, 2001. The organization's goal is to promote this diverse and important community as a great place to live, work, and visit, and one that offers significant cultural and historic attractions, fine restaurants and shops, as well as a variety of other amenities. Wall Street Rising seeks to enhance the reputation of Lower Manhattan as a thriving 24-hour commercial, retail and residential community.
In September 2003, Wall Street Rising opened a unique Downtown Information Center to promote Lower Manhattan as a great place to live, work, and visit. The Center is an authority on aspects of life Downtown such as cultural events, housing, business opportunities, restaurant and store openings, and museum exhibits. In addition, the Center hosts diverse programs and community events such as historical lectures, neighborhood forums, networking events and book readings.
In the fall of 2006, Wall Street Rising launched an exhibition within our new facility at 55 Exchange Place. In conjunction with world-renowned design firm Pentagram and James Sanders, co-author of the 17 1/2 hour New York documentary series on PBS, a twelve-foot interactive architectural model of Lower Manhattan that chronicles the history of our city's birthplace: past, present and future has been developed. Video projections, photographs, text and voiceover narrative by NBC Dateline correspondent John Hockenberry, tell this compelling and timely story.
The Corridor of Light helps promote the vibrancy and vitality of the unique and historic area of Downtown Manhattan by illuminating building façades and beautiful architectural details of some of the neighborhood's most treasured buildings. The transition of Lower Manhattan to a 24-hour, mixed use community of commercial and residential buildings is a critical issue for the area's health and safety that predates the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Visit www.wallstreetrising.org, click the Corridor of Light program, download the brochure and the audio tour and enjoy!
